Connecting
Classrooms
2009 Traveling Buddies is a program designed by Georgia teacher Kimberly Nelson. The objective of traveling buddies is for students to learn about different areas of the country through the exchange of a stuffed animal, digital photos, and other media.
We are paired up with four other teachers from around the country. Each month we will send our buddy to a new class, and receive a buddy. We will have buddies from all over the USA. Each month we will learn about a community through information sent to us from the buddy class. We will be studying state symbols, environment, and location. Students will record their knowledge of the state and city in a Traveling Buddies book. Traveling Buddies Book 1. Students will color in the state on the map. 2. Students will record city, state, and school. 3. Students will draw a picture of the mascot and record why the mascot was chosen. 4. Students will draw a picture of the city's environment. 5. Students will list three facts learned about the city and/or state. Our buddy is an Eagle, representing the Milford Eagles. Learn more about him below.

Eli went to Washington D.C.!!
Congresswoman Jean Schmidt read to the first graders in 2006. We introduced her to Eli and she asked to take him to Washington D.C. The students were thrilled. Eli had his picture taken in front of the Capital Building, Supreme Court, and Washington Memorial! |
| Above is our Traveling Buddies bulletin board. When we receive a traveling buddy, we will take its picture and post it on the bulletin board. We will connect the picture to the community of the traveling buddy using string. | |
